Robert Kuo
Once called a modern incarnation of the imperial artisan, Beijing-born Robert Kuo is widely considered a master of repoussé and cloisonné, traditional decorative arts in metal. The marvelous Robert Kuo for Sutherland collection represents his very successful foray into Chinese white and black marble, Han Bai Yu and Qing Si.
Kuo draws regularly on diverse influences ranging from the Han and Ming dynasties of China to the Deco and Nouveau periods of the west and is inspired by both the organic forms of nature and the cultural motifs of man.
The stunning work of Robert Kuo is on permanent exhibit in the National History Museum in Taipei, and the cloisonné masterwork, "Goldfish Bowl", is in the collection of the Smithsonian's Sackler Freer Gallery. Others have been displayed at the Singapore Ritz-Carlton, the Four Seasons in New York and San Francisco's Hotel Palomar.
